Trauma and EMDR
We often think of Trauma as something terrible, perhaps violent, that happened to a child. But in fact any event that a child falls beyond their ability to handle or process might be experienced as traumatic to them. Trauma appears differently with children compared to adults. They might get into fights at school, regress developmentally, or ‘space out’ at school. Generally they will show behaviors that fall under four categories: dysregulation of affect, persistent fear state,
disordered memory, and avoidance of intimacy.
EMDR therapy can help you move forward. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an effective psychotherapy that has been extensively researched and proven
effective for the treatment of trauma, neglect, abuse and grief.
By providing bi-lateral stimuli (eye movement, tactile or sound) to the body, the brain is activated to process the challenging experience in a safe environment. Your brain will do the healing which means that you are in charge. The memory that was “stuck” or frozen in your memory will be processed and the challenging emotions that were tied to it may be lessened.
EMDR is not used for trauma healing only. It is used to help with anxiety, performance issues, phobias, negative perception of self, depression, unresolved grief and other issues. Together with an experienced clinician you can explore how to move forward on your path. At times I will be asked the question “Why would I want to go into that painful memory?” and the answer is because your brain will do the healing for you.
Ariel is EMDR trained.

Play Therapy
“You can discover more about a child in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”
Plato
Ariel works with children using a non-directive play therapy model which ascertains that play is the language of children. In the fantasy of the play a child is able to communicate his or her innermost feelings, gain mastery over her environment, resolve conflicts effectively, and
experience healing.
Parenting consultation
Have you been feeling that your children do not listen to you anymore? That they do not follow your directions?
Believe it or not, this is the common feeling amongst parents worldwide. There has been a shift in the way we parent nowadays, from traditional parenting whose hallmarks were: corporal punishment, distance, owe, unconditional obedience and immunity from criticism to a more
democratic parenting that takes into account children’s feelings and thoughts.
Most parents no longer agree with this type of traditional parenting, and our institutions, and communities do not support it. Parents are genuinely struggling because we have yet to adopt consistently a new approach to parenting that is more inline with our values today.
I would like to help parents discover a way to parent their children that restores their authority while being aligned with and honors their values of a close, loving relationship. A kind of relationship that respects children’s feelings and minds, but at the same time provides them with structure, rules, and expectations.
Supervision
Ariel is a licensed clinical social worker and enjoys working with clinicians in a supervisory capacity. She can supervise clinician who wish to obtain their LCSW credentials.
